The title track steps with creeping malice, packing taut combustion with nods to the best of 90's era Dillinja. 'Spiral' is the highlight track here - pure futurism, a frenetic unravelling fireball punctuated with searing amen slices and sub punches. 'FK' is a rugged collab with Quartz that perfectly references and updates the golden era of DnB with tear-out amens and dive-bombing sonics. Final track 'Turmoil' is the 'Spiral' companion track, slicing up the clenched sections with rapid fire break hits that unknot themselves in focused propulsion only to be reeled back in tight for the next release. Predominately known as a Techno artist / DJ, Donato’s musical career is increasingly diverse. From his collaborative work with Neel as Voices From The Lake to his experimental ambient solo works, and his recent LP for Raster alongside Eva Geist stretching into synth pop, the maestro effortlessly reshapes any chosen sound with his distinctive touch. Many were surprised by Donato turning to 170bpm production for his remix of Homemade Weapons ‘Svalsat’ but those who have researched or experienced much of Donato’s history will likely have imagined it in advance. As a 12 year resident at Rome’s Brancaleone - the storied Italian squat / cultural centre / underground club, Donato began introducing DnB into his sets in the mid 2000’s and more recently his sets posted online for Resident Advisor and Terraforma showed the maestro adeptly working DnB into his impressively tempo hopping journeys.

Naturally we hoped there would be more 170 productions coming after the remix and after a short time, the tracks for The Tao began appearing as the hardware hypnotist had refined his approach to the new tempo.

‘Mai’ is a deep reductionist build pinned down by a taut kick pattern that rises in hypnosis until unfolding into a delicious percussive tweak. ‘Dusty Bones’ ramps up the BPM’s and hyper energy, playful at the same time as being a potent weapon sure to delight adventurous DJs across the spectrum. ‘Sanza High’ dives back into the analog meditation with a winding lead, static kicks, perfectly placed snares and percussive touches. ‘Tao’ was the final track made for the EP. Named after Donato’s cat, the playful energy of the tune captures one of Tao’s moods. Easily the happiest tune we have ever released, Tao’s essence is a jubilant vivacity over a suitably bubbly rhythm.

As expected, ‘The Tao’ is an impressive 170 debut EP that we sincerely hope is just the beginning of the Maestro’s work in this tempo.

- Marbled or Black Vinyl 12" in full artwork sleeve with paper inner
- Free Samurai Music sticker
- Free WAV's sent via emailed download link

<widgetic adaptive="414" autoscale="on" height="350" width="500" resize="fill-width" id="60a6945becb2a19e288b4569"></widgetic>
Beginning his musical production career with drum and bass/breakbeats in the late 90’s, ASC became known for his editing abilities and intricate productions. Auxiliary started life purely as an outlet for ASC's music at the back end of the Autonomic movement. Since then, it's been through a number of changes, taking in a lot of different styles along the way, including Autonomic, drum & bass, ambient, downtempo, techno, Grey Area, and music that can only be defined as experimental in nature.

Emotion In Rhythm collects 8 tracks spread over 2 pieces of vinyl. Proceedings open with ASC's 'Honed Edge', a slice of cinematic Grey Area, with his trademark ethereal soundscapes. New signing Sciama takes up the mantle with the impressive brooding ominous tones of 'Foreque', before master of the void, Sam KDC, takes things up a notch with the impressively destructive 'Gordian Knot'. Up next is a new collaborative project by ASC & Semblance. For those of you who don't know, Semblance is Will Swann, who has helped run the label since 2014. 'Simulacra' is a hypnotic moody synth workout, which brings plate one to a close.

Plate two opens with another two collaborations by ASC & Sam KDC. First up is 'The Inevitable'. A seriously dark menacing slower groove that features clever rhythmic work the pair are known for since the invention of their Grey Area project. Following that, the don their Saturne guise for the heavyweight acidic 'Hypnosis'. An atypical Grey Area techno track that would have been right at home on 2017's 'Trace Elements' EP. ASC's 'Penrose Stairs' then takes it down a notch with its mysterious melody and crashing sparse industrial percussion. Connections can be made to the anonymous Grey Area series of vinyl released between 2015-2017. This leads perfectly into the compilation closer by Synth Sense. Sadly, Synth Sense no longer produce music together, but their legacy on Auxiliary is such that we felt it was only right to include an unreleased gem from the Ashford pair in 'Broken Sword'. All of the hallmark SS techniques feature in a dark sci-fi narrative that puts a full stop at the end of the first ten years of the label.

In Rhythm cements Auxiliary's place as a label that defines the rules rather than following them. With a gentle nudge from Presha, the breakbeats were back in the mix and a slew of mid-90’s-inspired drum & bass ensued. The majority of the heavier break-oriented and edit-ladened tunes were set aside for projects with Samurai, however, there was a grip of tracks that were more at home with the older atmospheric/intelligent styles of drum & bass from the mid 90’s. Ideasthesia is the culmination of that work. Four tracks of atmospheric drum & bass in its most unadulterated form. No drum machines at work here, just sped up breakbeats, heavy 808 bass, blissful pads, and ethereal textures. Picking up where Dimensional Space left off, The Moons Of Saturn goes even deeper than it's predecessor, whilst exploring similar subject matter. There's lots to be in awe of here, from the opening arps floating in the white noise of space debris on Symphony Of Rhea, right through to the expansive 14 min+ epic of Reflections From Enceladus.
